BSN®'s Pre-Training Evolution - The Time For Change Has Come

By Eric Hart

Evolution - it's a term heard over and over again throughout the course of our existence, but do we really understand what it means? More often than not, most adopt a rudimentary definition and view evolution simply as change. This oversimplification has led to frequent use of the word in modern culture, chiefly as a trendy or catchy way to describe something new. In most cases, this is an improper use of the word. Evolution - or "descent with modification," as the great Charles Darwin would define it - is a prevalence of inherited traits that enhance an organism's survival and reproduction within specific environments. By this definition, evolution isn't just change for the sake of change; it is a specific adaptation in a population of individuals or organisms that aids in that population's survival.

FUNDAMENTALS OF EVOLUTION

As we will see is the case in the world of supplementation, the natural world has seen its share of species fall by the wayside. It's estimated that through evolutionary adaptation roughly 1% of all species that ever existed still live today; the remaining 99% have become extinct. According to Darwin, those species that have perpetuated have done so through the process of natural selection - the idea that a population of organisms can change over generations if individuals having certain heritable traits leave more offspring than other individuals, thus leading to evolutionary adaptation. In Darwin's theory of evolution, he made some revolutionary observations regarding the process of natural selection. One of his first observations was that all species have a great potential for fertility and that their population size would increase exponentially if all individuals of each species successfully reproduced. He also observed that the environmental resources of each population were limited. With limited resources, if more individuals are produced than the environment can support, a struggle for existence among individuals of the population begins, leading to the survival of only a fraction of the offspring in each generation. Additionally, Darwin observed that individuals within a population vary in their characteristics and that these variations were heritable. If environmental resources are limited, the individuals whose inherited traits best fit them to their environment are more likely to leave more offspring than less fit individuals, resulting in favored traits being highly represented in the next generation. Surely most have heard the term "survival of the fittest." This increased occurrence of favored traits in a given population is evolution.

EVOLUTION OF N.O.-XPLODE™

In 2004, with the introduction of N.O.-XPLODE™, the world's first pre-training energy & performance igniter, BSN® created the novel supplement category of pre-training igniters. Since its inception, the revolutionary formula has been relied on by performance athletes of all levels to ignite countless training sessions. Once athletes trained with the product, there was no turning back, and they refused to train without it. Falling in line with Darwin's first observation, as the popularity of N.O.-XPLODE™ skyrocketed, providing workout enthusiasts a name they could rely on, the population of pre-training products seemed to increase exponentially, eventually overpopulating the category. And just as no two snowflakes are identical, the same goes for individuals and for supplements.

Many attempts can and will be made to copy a results-producing formula, but only the original will retain the capability to proliferate those exact results-producing traits. With the population of pre-training products overcrowding the market, a Darwinian struggle for existence in the category began. Consumers had key criteria that needed to be met in order to fulfill their pre-training needs. If a formula contained the traits an individual needed to increase their workout performance, provide second-to-none intensity, boundless energy, unparalleled strength, tunnel-vision-like mental focus and undying stamina, then the product could survive to the next generation. But with many products coming up short, they failed to reproduce, thus not carrying through to the next generation of supplementation. One formula consistently found itself reproducing, surviving and evolving from one generation to the next, adapting to the ever-changing needs of the population - N.O.-XPLODE™.

When originally formulated by BSN®'s Research & Development Team, N.O.-XPLODE™ filled a massive hole in supplementation, creating an all-in-one pre-training and performance igniter that addressed four critical issues to ensure the most effective training session: energy, mental focus, workout intensity and maximum pumps. In order to exert maximal force during your training, mental and physical energy is a must. To harness this unbridled energy, channeling it to the task at hand, laser-precision mental focus is a necessity, allowing a Zen-like mind-muscle connection. By establishing this connection, greater workout intensity is achieved, allowing you to push the body further and harder than ever before. All of this, plus muscle fascia-expanding pumps, and you had a formula that was a recipe for training success.

THE NEXT STEP IN EVOLUTION

As the population of results-driven consumers consistently looked to improve performance and muscular gains, N.O.-XPLODE™ produced new generations that continually met these needs. With training energy and intensity demands met, as well as strength, mental focus and blood flow, the population began requiring increased performance mediation. As the limits of athletic achievement have evolved, so have the population's supplementation needs. With more emphasis being placed on athletic performance, the need for anti-fatigue capabilities has increased, to help individuals push their endurance past previous human limits. To further push the envelope of human performance, individuals desire greater anti-catabolic effects, helping to ensure that valuble lean muscle tissue is preserved while training, which aids in workout efficiency and gains produced. In order to maximize muscular performance, nutrient timing and absorption has become a critical component of supplementation, leading athletes to demand greater regulation of insulin, ensuring the most is made of every nutrient consumed. The replacement of high-energy compounds such as ATP and electrolytes, as well as the removal of fatigue-associated waste, is also at the forefront of athletes' needs, helping properly hydrate and refuel working muscle tissue to prevent an athlete from hitting a performance wall. It's plain to see that the desired traits of a pre-training product have greatly changed, once again forcing an evolutionary adaptation in order for a supplement to survive.

Enter EVOLUTION SERIES N.O.-XPLODE™ NT. With performance increased, training intensity greater than ever and muscular gains on the rise, it was only human nature that athletes from all circles began demanding even more performance gains from their training sessions. To ensure that athletes' training, performance and bodies continue to evolve, BSN® made sure that their pre-training igniter evolved with them. Not only does N.O.-XPLODE™ NT still maximize energy, mental focus, training intensity, strength and pumps, it now provides athletes with the means to offset training fatigue, minimize the catabolic effects of intense training, replace high-energy compounds, super-hydrate muscles and promote the regulation of insulin for greater nutrient uptake and utilization. N.O.-XPLODE™ NT has not only met the changing needs of energy and performance for today's athletes, it has evolved to a point that will force athletes to adapt their training in order to maximize the results from this revolutionary formula. The time for change has come - once you train with it, you will never evolve without it!
